About the Event

Who says spooky season ends once Halloween is over? Not us! All She Wrote Books is thrilled to host an in-person ghost story party with authors Leanna Renee Hieber and Andrea Janes on Wednesday, Nov. 9th at 7:30pm! They will share some of their favorite female ghost stories and will be signing copies of their debut book: A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: True Stories of America’s Ghosts

About the Book

Spectrality can potentially bestow agency on a woman who was denied it in life, forcing her haunted victims to reckon with her whether they want to or not. While it’s easy to dismiss and belittle a living woman who dares to defy her gendered expectations, it is much harder to silence a ghost: She has remarkable staying power.

A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: True Stories of America’s Ghosts is the first-ever book of its kind, an offbeat history of female ghosts, the stereotypes, myths, and paranormal tales that swirl around them, what their stories reveal about us, and why they haunt us.

Paranormal expert storytellers Leanna Renee Hieber and Andrea Janes have observed that America’s female spirits fall into distinct categories, “a cheeky nod to the way gender is a societally constructed norm.” Archetypes of the Witch, the Bride, the Mother and Wife, the Jezebel, the Fallen Woman, the Fraud, the Maiden, and the Spinster, function as a kind of mediumship to source the deeper meanings in their stories. These specters differ widely in background, class, and circumstance, but one thing unites them: their ability to instill fascination and fear, long after their deaths, their collective stories creating a larger narrative of the changing social roles of women in America.

Signed books can be purchased as part of your ticket for this event, or on-site. If you’re unable to attend, signed copies are available via our website! Masks will be required during this event.

We cannot wait for this celebration with Leanna and Andrea, and we hope you are excited too!
