About the Event

About This Event

Our adult queer story time is a chance to come hear some stories and share our truth with the world. A few tears, some laughter and a healthy dose of awe in our fellow human beings. We are curating a diverse group of storytellers and hoping to give space for those who attend to share a bit also.

We will also be joined by local author, Neema Avashia, who will be sharing her story which is featured in her debut memoir Another Appalachia: Coming Up Queer and Indian in a Mountain Place.

About the Author

Neema Avashia is the daughter of Indian immigrants, and was born and raised in southern West Virginia. She has been a teacher in the Boston Public Schools since 2003. Her first book, Another Appalachia: Coming Up Queer and Indian in a Mountain Place, was published by West Virginia University Press in March. It has been called “A timely collection that begins to fill the gap in literature focused mainly on the white male experience” by Ms. Magazine, and “A graceful exploration of identity, community, and contradictions,” by Scalawag.

Event guidelines:

  • All attendees must wear a face mask at all times.
  • RSVP is encouraged, but not required.
  • Additional copies of the author's book will be available for purchase at the event
